The Master of Arts in Education (MAE) is grounded in process-relational theory of education and offered in collaboration with the Center for Process Studies (CPS), which provides faculty support and intellectual resources. It immerses students in the theory and practice of education understood as a dynamic, interconnected, and creative process. Students learn how to apply the core principles of process-relational philosophy\u2014such as relationality, creativity, value, ecological responsibility, and whole-person development\u2014and Alfred North Whitehead\u2019s rhythms of education (romance\u2013precision\u2013generalization) to the needs of teaching, learning, leadership, community engagement, and curriculum design in a rapidly changing and interdependent world.<\/p>

The program shall be offered, branded and marketed under the auspices of Claremont International University (CIU), a dba of Southern California School of Theology.<\/p>

This program emphasizes how educators can shape life-affirming learning environments and cultivate communities of inquiry that support human and planetary flourishing. Students explore the philosophical foundations of education, relational pedagogy, imaginative and narrative learning, ecological awareness, intercultural perspectives, and the practical skills required to design transformative educational experiences.<\/p>

The degree includes seven core courses, four elective courses for individualized study, and a summative exercise. Graduates are equipped to cultivate communities of inquiry and to serve as transformative educators and leaders in schools, universities, nonprofits, and other educational settings\u2014guiding learners toward more relational, sustainable, and flourishing ways of living.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The MAE consists of 36 course credits. It is designed to be completed in a minimum of 2 years at full-time enrollment (12 units each Fall and Spring term). The maximum length of time a student may spend in this degree without special approval is 3 years.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

This degree is offered in a combination of online and intensive in-person modalities. Students travel to Los Angeles for two-week intensive experiences each summer (July\u2013August, in alignment with the summer break in China\u2019s K-12 educational calendar). These sessions focus on one course per week, and both courses include additional reading and assignments carried out asynchronously over the remainder of the Fall semester. Two additional remote synchronous or asynchronous courses may be taken in the Fall to add up to full-time enrollment. In the Spring semester, students take a combination of remote synchronous and asynchronous courses.<\/p>

Synchronous courses are distinguished by required weekly Zoom sessions. Asynchronous courses may include a variety of methods for contact between faculty and students, such as:<\/p>
